M.Sc. Mathematics

Program Overview

MSc Mathematics, a two-year postgraduate program which is being divided into four semesters. In this degree, students get a deep insight into pure and applied mathematics and get a deeper knowledge of advanced mathematics through a vast preference of subjects such as geometry, calculus, algebra, number theory, dynamical systems, differential equations, etc. Students learn about the problem-solving skills and reasoning skills which helps them to solve them the real-life problems. Successful students become professionally skilled and capable of being absorbed in academics, software industry and research institutions. A postgraduate degree in M.Sc. in Mathematics opens avenues of jobs both in public & private sectors.

Programme Educational Objectives:

  1. Apply their knowledge in modern industry or teaching, or secure acceptance in high quality graduate programs in mathematics.
  2. Development in their chosen profession and/or progress toward an advanced degree.
  3. The trust and respect of others as effective and ethical team members.
  4. Graduates will become effective collaborators and innovators, leading or participating in efforts to address social, technical and business challenges.
  5. Promote the culture of interdisciplinary research among all disciplines and applied mathematics. 

Program Outcomes (POs):

  1. Inculcate critical thinking to carry out scientific investigation objectively without being biased with preconceived notions.
  2. Equip the student with skills to analyze problems, formulate a hypothesis, evaluate and validate results, and draw reasonable conclusions thereof.
  3. Prepare students for pursuing research or careers in industry in mathematical sciences and allied fields
  4. Continue to acquire relevant knowledge and skills appropriate to professional activities and demonstrate highest standards of ethical issues in mathematical sciences.
  5. Create awareness to become an enlightened citizen with commitment to deliver ones responsibilities within the scope of bestowed rights and privileges.

Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs):

  1. Understanding of the fundamental axioms in mathematics and capability of developing ideas based on them.
  2. Prepare and motivate students for research studies in mathematics and related fields.
  3. Provide advanced knowledge on topics in pure mathematics, empowering the students to pursue higher degrees at reputed academic institutions.
  4. Nurture problem solving skills, thinking, creativity through assignments, project work.
  5. Assist students in preparing (personal guidance, books) for competitive exams e.g. NET, GATE, etc
