Hindi Day

A ceremony was organized at Glocal University, Saharanpur, on the eve of Hindi Day, under the inspiration of the Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Professor P.K. Bharti. Professor Umapati Dixit, Chairperson of the Central Hindi Institute, was the chief speaker, and Professor Virendra Pal Singh, former Head of the Sociology Department, Allahabad University, was the invited speaker. The event was coordinated by Dr. Shobha Tripathi. The program began with the lighting of the lamp by the guests. Dr. Swarnima Singh, Dean of Student Welfare, welcomed the guests. Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Satish Kumar Sharma, highlighted the importance of the Hindi language and introduced the topic, stating that the Indian government has emphasized the use of the mother tongue in the New Education Policy so that students can better understand their subjects. He added that imposing a foreign language hinders the assimilation of knowledge.

Invited speaker Professor Virendra Pal Singh stressed the importance of the mother tongue, saying that we should conduct our studies and teaching in our mother tongue and document our knowledge in it so that it can become our history in the future. Chief speaker Professor Umapati Dixit began his speech with a hymn dedicated to Goddess Saraswati. He emphasized that Hindi is the world’s foremost practical language and that its grammar is the most scientific. Hindi has a vast market, and we must sustain it while recognizing the significance of our language. He expressed disappointment that Hindi has not yet attained the status of a national language, and urged Indians to put aside all differences and strive to make Hindi the national language. He also discussed the provisions of the New Education Policy and shed light on the status of Hindi abroad.

In his presidential address, Honorable Vice-Chancellor Professor P.K. Bharti stated that it is essential to bring Hindi into daily practice and that we should use Hindi as much as possible. Hindi respects all languages and has the capacity to assimilate words from them. While we may acquire knowledge in any language, spreading it in our own language increases the use of that language. The more the demand for Hindi grows, the more people will emphasize its usage. The event also saw the release of “Glocal Drishti,” the university’s first Hindi research journal.
