After basic degree in Science, Mr. Deshpande did post graduation in Human Resources Management from Bombay University. While working, he did HR Executive Programme jointly conducted by University of Michigan Business School and Academy for Management Excellence. He also did the Advance Programme in HRM from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, India.

In his versatile career, Mr Deshpande has also worked in functions other than HR. While in Bayer, he was Project Manager and set up a manufacturing plant in Gujarat. On completion of the project, he took over the responsibility as Works Manager of the plant. In another organization, in addition to HR, he handled the responsibility of Logistics and Systems. He was on the board of Saushtra Paints Limited.

Mr Deshpande has very active interest in Training and Development. He is a faculty for in-house training programmes of several companies. He teaches at business schools in Mumbai, Pune and Delhi. He has travelled to several countries either on some Human Resources assignment or training. He has spoken in many national and international management events. He has extensive experience in competencies mapping and conducting assessment/ development centres. He is well trained in conducting job evaluations as well.

Mr. Deshpande is very active on professional front. He is Vice President of Indo American Society, he had been Chairman of Mumbai chapter of National Institute of Personnel Management and he is member of H R committee of Employers Federation of India and Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

Mr Vijay Deshpande is well known in industry and among professionals. In year 2004, he was one of the chosen few H R professionals on whom an award titled Indias Greatest H R Professionals was conferred upon. The honour was bestowed on him in a large HR congress attended by over 3000 professionals organised by ITM Business School. In 2014, in another World H R Congress, Mr. Deshpande was bestowed with H R Leadership Award.
